The Secret to Delicious Meals
I’m a true believer in using fresh, unprocessed and where possible, local ingredients to make every meal taste its best. To me, “the secret” of delicious food is to cook from your heart. You can tell when a dish has been prepared by someone who is passionate about cooking, you can almost taste that “sprinkle of love” they used to make that dish extra special.
The Power of Food
I didn’t realize how poor my diet really was until I started paying close attention to the quality of food I was eating. Having binned all the processed foods, ready-made jars, refined sugar and convenience foods, I started cooking from scratch and saw a vast improvement in how I felt, how much more energy I had during and after my fitness workouts and how mindful I became about my lifestyle in general. Nourishing my body with healing foods helped me to deepen my spiritual connections too—the power of food should never be underestimated.
Perfect Detox Ingredients
As much as I love a little sprinkle of superfood now and again, blue matcha is my favorite at the moment—I always resort to the old and trusted ginger and turmeric when I prepare any detox meals or smoothies. These two powerful ingredients are so easy to get hold of and, very importantly, they are budget friendly, which makes them accessible to anyone. I usually combine them together for an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant punch to my meals.
4 small beetroots (cooked and roughly chopped)
1 can chickpeas
3 tbsp water from the chickpeas tin Juice of
1 lemon Salt and pepper, to taste
2 garlic cloves (minced)
½ tsp smoked paprika
Bunch of fresh parsley leaves
1 tbsp olive oil (optional)
Blend all the ingredients together, apart from the water from the chickpeas tin (aquafaba), in a food processor and process for 4-5 minutes until well combined. While the food processor is still running, start adding the aquafaba very slowly, a little at a time. Process for 2-3 minutes until the desired consistency is achieved. Garnish the hummus with more fresh parsley if desired.
