health tonic, tonic recipe

Fresh citrus juice mixed with the heat of fresh ginger root and cayenne pepper. This recipe is quite hot taste-wise, but can also be sweetened to your liking.

INGREDIENTS

2 navel oranges, rinds cut off 1 lemon, rind cut off 1 lime, rind cut off 1⁄2 grapefruit, rind cut off 1-inch piece fresh ginger root 1⁄16 tsp ground cayenne pepper 1 cup filtered water

3 tbsp maple syrup (optional)

citrus tonic, ginger tonic

METHOD

• Cut off the fruit rinds/peels. Cut the fruits into quarters and place in a high-powered blender along with the remaining ingredients. Blend on high for 20-30 seconds until smooth. Serve and enjoy!

Recipe Notes:

You can adjust the amount of maple syrup in the recipe if you find the heat too much. Be cautious using cayenne pepper—it is hot, and if you happen to get any on your hands/skin, be sure to wash the area thoroughly and avoid touching your eyes to prevent irritation.
